Real double-entry,
whether you look at it or not.
Under the friendly surface is a full general ledger your accountant will trust: automatic balanced postings, an extendable chart of accounts, reversal-based corrections and a fiscal-year close that handles retained earnings properly.
Balanced by construction
every document posts a complete journal entry
Nothing edited silently
corrections are reversals — history stays intact
Year-end close & reopen
with retained earnings handled correctly
Bookkeeping you don't have to do.
You create invoices, bills and payments. The engine writes the debits and credits — instantly, correctly, invisibly.
- ✓ Every document posts itself — invoices, bills, expenses, payments and returns each write balanced journal entries the moment they happen.
- ✓ A real chart of accounts — sensible defaults out of the box, extendable with your own accounts, with system accounts protected from accidents.
- ✓ Simple Mode and Accountant Mode — the same ledger described in everyday words or in full accounting vocabulary, per user.
- ✓ Manual journal entries — for the accountants who want them, with the same balance guarantees as everything else.
- ✓ Opening balances — start mid-year from your old system without polluting this year's profit.
An audit trail auditors actually like.
The test of accounting software isn't the happy path — it's what happens when something needs correcting.
- ✓ Posted entries are immutable — enforced down to the database; nobody can quietly rewrite history.
- ✓ Corrections by reversal — voiding a document posts an equal-and-opposite entry, leaving both visible.
- ✓ Period locks — closed and locked periods reject new postings, so finalized numbers stay final.
- ✓ Fiscal-year close and reopen — sweep the year into retained earnings, and reopen cleanly if something surfaces later.
- ✓ Everything dated and attributed — who, what, when, on every entry.
Accounting engine — common questions
Do I need to understand debits and credits?
No. In Simple Mode you work with invoices, bills and payments in plain language while the engine does double-entry underneath. Accountant Mode shows the full ledger vocabulary when you want it.
Can my accountant work in OneBooks?
Comfortably — trial balance, general ledger, manual journals, an extendable chart of accounts and reversal-based corrections are all there, and the books they see are the same books you see.
Can entries be edited after posting?
No — posted journal data is immutable, enforced at the database level. Corrections post explicit reversal entries, so the trail of what happened and what fixed it stays complete.
How does year-end closing work?
Closing sweeps the year's profit into retained earnings at the year boundary and locks the period. If something surfaces later, reopen reverses the close cleanly and lets you fix and re-close.
